Before Your Flight

Check-in Procedures

At Zayed International Airport, we offer several convenient check-in options:

• Online Check-in: Most airlines allow passengers to check in online 24–48 hours before departure. You can choose your seat, download or print your boarding pass, and even receive a mobile boarding pass to use directly from your smartphone.
• Airport Check-in Counters: The airport’s main terminal offers spacious, well-organized check-in areas for all airlines. Counters typically open three hours before international flights. Passengers are advised to arrive with enough time to check in and pass security without rushing.
• Self-Service Kiosks: For a quick and smooth experience, use our modern self-service kiosks located in the check-in hall. You can check in, select seats, and print boarding passes within minutes.

Airport Viewing Area

Zayed International offers stunning architectural design, but aviation fans can also enjoy watching aircraft movements from designated observation lounges inside the terminal.

Baggage Information

Understanding baggage rules helps avoid unnecessary stress or extra charges:

• Carry-on Luggage: Most airlines allow one cabin bag and one personal item such as a purse or laptop bag. Standard size is around 55 x 40 x 20 cm, and weight limits vary but often range between 7–10 kg.
• Checked Baggage: Economy passengers are generally allowed one 23 kg bag, while business and first-class travelers can bring two pieces. Always confirm with your airline before travel.
• Oversize and Special Items: If transporting golf clubs, musical instruments, or sports gear, contact your airline ahead of time to arrange handling.
• Prohibited Items: Dangerous or restricted items, including flammable materials and sharp objects, are not allowed in either carry-on or checked baggage. Full details are available on the airport website or from your airline.
• Left Luggage: A secure baggage storage facility is available for travelers who wish to explore Abu Dhabi without their bags. Located in the arrivals hall of the main terminal.

Security Screening

Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation during security checks:

• Security Checkpoints: Have your boarding pass and ID ready. Remove electronic devices larger than a smartphone and place them separately in trays. Liquids must be carried in 100ml containers inside a 1-liter resealable bag.
• Liquids, Aerosols, Gels (LAGs): The 100ml rule applies to all passengers. Medications and baby food are exceptions but must be declared to staff if requested.
• Advanced Screening Technology: The airport uses state-of-the-art scanners that respect privacy while maintaining high-security standards. Inform our team if you have medical devices or conditions affecting screening.

Passport and Visa Requirements

Travelers must ensure they have valid travel documents before departure:

• Passport Validity: Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay.

Terminal Layout

Zayed International Airport features three terminals: Terminals A, 1, and 3. The newest Terminal A, opened in 2023, is the main international hub with premium facilities and Etihad Airways’ flagship operations.

• Ground Level: Arrivals hall, customs, baggage claim, car rental, and transport services.
• Departures Level: Check-in halls, security, passport control, and departure gates.
• Upper Level: Airline lounges, duty-free shops, and dining areas.

The airport is fully accessible, with elevators, ramps, and designated assistance points for passengers with reduced mobility.

Transportation

Reaching Abu Dhabi city center (approximately 30 minutes away) is simple:

• Taxi: Available 24/7 outside Arrivals; metered and comfortable.
• Bus: Routes 901 and A1 connect the airport to central Abu Dhabi.
• Car Rental: Major international car rental brands have counters in the Arrivals area.
